Godon: the world of art courts the world of brutes
Those who would ordinarily expect the Le Touquet-Pas-de-Calais Enduropale poster to show last year’s winner standing on the podium are going to be surprised. Original, and in complete contrast to the tradition of previous years, this year’s 2010 poster is by an artist; it comes straight from Alain Godon’s imagination. The painter, very much in fashion in the “Four Seasons” resort, didn’t have to beg to be allowed to bring a touch of art, entirely free of charge, to this event: “Daniel Fasquelle wanted to infuse town’s activities with more culture, and at some point we came up with the idea of the poster. I readily accepted, because I felt I wanted to give something back to this town. I also stipulated that all the profits from the marketing and sale of this poster should go to the organisation which runs the “Grand Prix des Artistes”; a cause close to my heart”, explains the artist.
An ardent supporter of this motocross endurance trial since his youth - he used to come from Arras on his moped and watch - Alain set out to relate his life experiences on canvas: “For me, bikers are the true knights in armour, setting forth to meet the enemy - even if it just the elements and the sand. There is also the “living gods” angle that the fans live through during the race”, Alain Godon discloses.
